As I’m already accustomed to Windows 8, I liked the UI of AV Antivirus 2014 and it’s very ease to use, on the main window itself you can access all the features and functions of the software.

Next , now AVG Antivirus consumes less memory compared to the previous version, for instance it took around 50 MB RAM under normal performance. But a full (initial) scan shot-up the RAM usage and it took around 15 minutes to complete the scan.

Installation:
Installation of AVG Antivirus 2014 is very simple, you can either proceed with the express installation or Custom installation. But my suggestion is to go with ‘Custom install’ and disable AVG browser toolbar.

Although AVG’s intention is to provide security from dangerous websites right from your browser, but this toolbar will create AVG Secure Search (still powered by Google) as a home page on your browser and act as default search provide, further the AVG secure search will appear every time you launch a new tab.

I feel this as an intrusion, unwanted and clutters your browsing experience. So, try to avoid it by selecting the Custom installation option and during installation you will notice ‘AVG Tool bar’, don’t check the options “I accept AVG Secure Search as my default search provider, Home page and new tab page”.

As I said before this free Antivirus has a nice Windows 8 like user interface, on the main window of the application you will notice 6 tiles offering key functions or modules of the application.

The rest of the tiles are ads to AVG’s other applications and at the bottom main interface you will notice a big banner suggesting to try or buy AVG Internet Security 2014, you can hide this notification.

This module includes Antivirus component and Data safe feature, the AntiVirus component run in the background and gives you computer continuous real-time protection.

2. Web browsing:
This includes two components LinkScanner Surf-Shield and Online Shield , LinkScanner will prevent your PC from hacked sites, phishing sites and websites employing malicious code.
